Dead After Dark
by Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse Series

View in Library Catalog

This book follows very closely along with the first season of True Blood with the exception of the characters Tara and Jessica being absent. Like the show, features great cast of characters well drawn from the outset. The book is told in first person from Sookie's perspective, so you get an even better sense of her point of view than in the show. The audiobook is especially well done in terms of Sookie's accent, attitude, etc.

Inheritance Dani Shapiro

This book is a real page turner written in many ways like a mystery being unveiled. Beautiful writing style, deeply self reflective. Excellent read for a trip.

Me Talk Pretty One Day David Sedaris
by David Sedaris Me Talk Pretty One Day

Classic book of essays covering his family life, years as struggling artist working odd jobs, and, as the title suggests, his time in France and attempts to learn the language. Witty, self-deprecating. Sedaris' audiobooks recommended to get a sense of his personality.

Another funny story featuring Miss Julia. This series is funny, touching, and just a good read.

Midnight In Chernobyl

One of the best nonfiction books I have ever read. Reads like a thriller. Amazing research. Avoids judgment of characters in favor of making you care about them as people using thoughtful details. Makes nuclear physics accessible to the reader. A harrowing ride.

The White Princess Philippa Gregory
by Philippa Gregory Books

This was the first book I've read by this author after having seen some of the tv/film adaptations of her work. The books really bring the characters to life, and it is intriguing the way that they are told in first person from one person's point of view. Hard to say how historically accurate these are, but they do seem accurate in a broad sense. Actually encourages interest in the historical subject matter. Makes for a great summer read.
